Postby mester » Thu Sep 24, 2009 12:23 am

PRE-QUALIFICATION
Match 1:

FIN-GB 14-17(7-9)
http://britishhandball.worldhandball.co ... temid=2333

I watched Hargreaves last year in Nederland(WCH qualies) and she´s really amazing =D> one maybe two cl. better than the other "british" girls...
She´s 20y old right ? On the british handball site there is an info that she´s a member of team Esbjerg but Í newer saw her in the 1st team...where is she playing ???

She was last year at Team Esbjerg. Don't know where she is playing now. Lyn Byl is a very good defense player. In Leverkusen she plays line player or wing position. I think at GB team she plays right back.

For GB it would be a boost to reach the qualification.

Agree with you, GB in this level have very good defense, sometimes little bit too hard but fair...Lyn Byl is their key player of course in defense, you´re right she played as a back player in attack but I don´t know on which position(they changed it many times) but for me she´s technically not really good for attack and she´s maybe the oldest player in the team...

AFAIK Sarah Hargreaves is still in Esbjerg this season.
Here's a transfer list for all Danish league teams before this season with players coming and leaving and there's no mentioning of Sarah Hargreaves leaving Team Esbjerg: http://haandbold.com/artikler.php?id=56
Last season she was Team Esbjerg's 2nd keeper behind Katarina Tomasévic.
But this year Esbjerg also signed former Horsens and Viborg keeper Marie Staun, so I guess Sarah Hargreaves is 3rd keeper now.
Here's an article from May 15, discussing the keeper situation with Team Esbjerg headcoach Jan Paulsen after they had signed Marie Staun for the new season: http://www.haandbold.com/nyheder.php?id=17024
Basically Jan Paulsen says Team Esbjerg has always wanted to have 3 keepers and with their veteran keeper Dorthe Rask out since Chirstmas due to pregnancy they wanted a new keeper to supplement Khttp://www.handball123.com/forum/posti ... 58#atarina Tomasévic and Sarah Hargreaves and that's why they signed Marie Staun.
Sarah Hargreaves came to Team Esbjerg before last season on a part-time contract. Headcoach Jan Paulsen first saw Sarah Hargreaves play when she was praticing with the British NT in Århus, Denmark.

Team Esbjerg 2 (the best team from one of Team Esbjerg's two mother clubs the former Kvik HK which has just been renamed to Team Esbjerg HK) just got promoted to the 3rd best Danish league (2nd division) for this season. Maybe Sarah Hargreaves play for this team when Katarina Tomasévic and Marie Staun are the keeepers in Team Esbjerg's 1st team?

Sarah Hargreaves is born and riased in Denmark, but she has an English farther and decided to give up her Danish citizenship to get a British passport. This way she gets to play for a NT and probably going to the London Olympics. She probably realized her chances to get a spot in the Danish NT would be slim and with the Olympics coming to London she would get a pretty good chance to play there for the automatically qualified host nation Great Britain.

Sarah Hargreaves' play profile at Team Esbjerg's website: http://teamesbjerg.kivanet.dk/scr.php?s ... icle&i=803
Born: May 17, 1989
Height: 185 cm

Congrats GB! It's a great chance for them. I think it's a group where they can try to produce good displays without the fear of being humiliated. Austria and Iceland are obviously more powerful then them, but it's a much logical step further, than playing against Germany or Hungary or any other - you name it - top 10 Euro team.

It will also be interesting to see how this sport will develop in GB before and, much relevant, after the London Olympics. US, Australia and Greece are strong negative examples regarding this issue.
More interesting is the comparison to GB basketball team. They've come from nowhere to take part in the Euro, where they had very good displays without 2 of their stars (leading virtually Euro champions Spain with 4p and 4 mins left). The basketball team isn't guaranteed an Olympic spot by FIBA at this moment and they were conditioned by the qualification in the Euro MR (which they didn't succeed in a group which proved to feature 3 of the 4 semifinalists of the tournament :|). However, their good display hasn't rule them out of the Olympic spot contest and it seems they'll have an extra chance to prove their skills in next year's WCh, where it seems they'll receive a special wild card.
Handball, on the other hand, has never provided such a good display on any level and yet IHF and EHF has never questioned the possibility of awarding team GB the automatic Olympic spots. Moreover, this week, EHF has issued a press release which underlines the full support of the federation towards the Brittish efforts.

You might want to see this. It's a little pre-match, a 5-6 mins resume and some post-match interviews from yesterday's game in Liverpool.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/handball/8277090.stm

So nice to see that sheer pleasure of playing handball! Plus, both the Britts and the Finns seem to be shooting far more from 9m than Romania :P (that was mean).

First match in "Moračа",

Montenegro - Macedonia 30:30 (14:14) FT

Boring and low quality handball ! MNE totaly out of form, and without Bojana, they will lose both matches easy.
Jovanović and Radović were solid and Radičević with fastbreaks. Other players ... :-" as well as defence. #-o
In MKD best player Bajramovska with Andreeva on goal.

Tommorow, second match at 11.30h.

Macedonia had 4 goals advantage twice middway second half. Elena Georgievska saved the point at the end.

Defence terrible, at least few backcourt players has developed since our Austria catastrophe.

Macedonia playd with out Kresoja and Todorovska, i read that Ohalanga will return to our national team.

Sounds quite reasonable :) It seems like Eszter Mátéfi finally listened to László Laurencz and added Bulath to the squad. Am really looking forward to see how our defense will work without Szűcs.
