An Asian team (in order: Kazakhstan, Hongkong, Thailand) is the legitimate substitute. I really think that KAZ won't let it go.

Shame on Germany and Denmark, this was solved by both! North Korea participated at the Asian Games and Champs.

This proves how corrupt are both of you. Germany even received wild-card for the World Championship previously, wasn't qualified but begged to Australia not to be present.

Beggars

Romania lost to Yugoslavia of Popovovic, Savic, Bulatovic and Dokic and stayed home. I can't believe somebody can support this s**t for the 2nd time.

It just proves how "fair" are the Nordics, this is the real face.

Rules are made to be respected. All are equal(s).

please stop being a child. there is no proof to support your accusations. I partially understand your frustration i.e. the places should not be awarded and the criterion should be only the results, but let's not rush into this.

According to this article, North Korea announced it won't take part (although the IHF hasn't confirmed that yet).

This was very predictable and we were discussing it on the chat during the WCh. Let's see if my other speculation will come true. Knowing IHF's consistency in respecting their own rules, I wouldn't be surprised with GER/DEN popping up in that tournament.

At the same time, there's a little development little known by the media. IOC has criticised handball for being a Euro-sport only and threatened to kick it out of the OG. Not bringing a substitute Asian team in the OQT could fuel this kind of perspective and harm the sport on the long term.

In conclusion, there are strong premises for either KAZ/DEN/GER to appear in this tournament, iff North Korea will indeed not take part.

North Korea, which finished third in the Asian pre-qualification, has informed IHF that they will not start.
(...)
Handbollskanalen has been in contact with the IHF, which announces that a request is currently with Kazakhstan who turned four in the Asian Olympic qualifiers.

The place in the group is assigned to Asia and after Kazakhstan, Hong Kong comes in the OQT. (...)

As s**t as the IOC are, I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe they replace it with some e-game.

What about field hockey then? Or gymnastics where 90% of the medals go to 6-7 countries? Or even waterpolo?

Right. And what about cross country skiing in the winter olympics? Baseball? Rugby? Table tennis? Russia has won every synchronised swimming competiton for many years. Handball is no exception.

^ This is not about who's winning these competitions but about who can participate. As long as the rightful place of a team from, say Asia, is not taken through dubious maneuvers by a team from Europe (as has happened several times in handball), IOC is happy.

Why did they move Kazakhstan to Hungary? It will be big scandal if they send Germany or Denmark in Montenegro. Kazakhstan should have stayed where it was drawn, correct?

So who will replace Kazakhstan in OQT #3 ?

Hongkong has the primary right and is officially invited.

"invited" - I assume they have been asked first and then they confirmed before this has been made public. :-k Surely?

I don't know. But this place is for Asia and if Hongkong declines, Thailand will be invited. Teams from other continents come under cosideration only if both HKG and THA refuse to take part (then, a non-standard IHF decision should be made).

I still don't see any changes in the IHF website.

Aren't there any rules or procedures for this? I mean, there must have been a similar situation in the past, so I wonder how the IHF handled it back then.

So will be Germany or Danmark....well :!: ... :-k ...in fact I think will be much more interesting ...because each team will have the chance to make surprises against one of the other side (at least) and nothing will be predictible ,thing that can help second- chance-team.
