| Bayer Leverkusen season preview |
| 23-07-2010, 12:19 by Christian Stein |
Despite the fact that Bayer Leverkusen has to build a complete new central defence the german cupwinner starts with high ambitions into the new season. The championship-playoffs, the cup-final-four and the group stage of the EHF Champions-League are the main objectives for this season. Reaching champions League group stage is quite ambitious playing the qualification tournament against EHF-Cup-Winner Randers HK, Ukrainian champion HC Smart and turkisch champion Milli Piyango.
It’s some crucial changes Leverkusen has to face before the season. Line player Anne Müller moved to Leipzig and will be replaced by Italian Stefanie Egger. Routined playmaker Heike Ahlgrimm finished her career and will be substituted by Anne Jochin. Both new players played last season at Trier. Furthermore Leverkusen made some crucial changes at the wings. Katrin Engel and Sara Walzik, who both didn’t fulfil the expectations, left the club after only one season and moved to Thüringer HC. Anne Krüger (Blomberg) and Kathrin Hambitzer (second team) will join the team. Both players grown up at Leverkusen, Krüger played the last three years at the cup-runner-up. To compete the squad Leverkusen decided to sign three talented backcourt players that will gain match experience at lower league teams.
