| Viborg HK season preview |
| 28-07-2010, 17:00 by Esben |
We have just had a phone interview with Viborg Coach - Jacob Vestergaard, here is what he said about the coming season:
Tell us a bit about your Champions League Group?
It is a very tough draw. We are in “the group of death”, with 3 superb teams and only two teams will go through. In the other groups there are two clear favorites.
Dinamo - has a team of young star players lead by Kochetova and Levina, we were very lucky to win there with one goal last year.
Buducnost - we know this team very well, they were already a good team and now they got Bojana also, it is time for them to produce results.
Is your team complete for the coming season?
Yes. If there will be added more players it will be from our young talents.
Are you concerned about the depth of your squad for the coming season?
No the depth is better then ever, we might have less players, but the competition to be among the starting seven is higher then ever.
It is a superb training squad and I would not mind playing 3 x 30 min (a game)
If I should mention a small concern it is the fact that we play all 6 Champions League group games before Christmas, and last year we needed longer time to get the team work 100%
Have you done anything different because of that concern?
Yes, last year we were one of the last teams to start the practice pre season, this year we have started earlier.
You lost Bojana suddenly, did that come as a complete surprise or had it be underway for a while?
I had known that there was a possibility for a while, and it had gone back and forth, from her leaving to her staying, but when she left I was on my way on summer holiday and were quite convinced that she would stay.
You have signed Carmen Amerie, tell us about her role in the team?
She is expected to play both backs mainly left, she have a superb winning attitude and is very strong. I am very happy with her in practice so far, as it looks like she have already adapted very well to our style of play.
In my point of view Acimovic haven’t fulfilled her full potential in your team?
I my opinion she have done it very well especially in the defense, but it is quite normal that it can take some time for a foreign player to adapt to the style of play in a new team in another country. Compared to Hypo we have a different style of play, and we have more shooters to share the responsibility.
Will you do anything different concerning Acimovic in the coming season?
Yes we will try to set her up for more shots especially in the fast breaks.
Thank you for your time, did you know handball123 by the way?
Anytime, and yes both Mette and I know the site very well.
