[OT] Trip to Denmark: Advice to watch a match

Postby jgomsi » Tue Sep 11, 2007 10:08 am

Hi,
first of all, excuse me for the OT but I did not know where to post this. Are there a topic for OT questions?.

As there are some cheap flights from Alicante to Billund, I'm considering making a trip to Denmark for a weekend to watch a match. I would fly on Friday (17:00-20:15) and would come back on Sunday (20:40-23:55), in January or February.

Where do you advice me to go to watch a good match? Is there any other issue I should consider?

Thanks!

Some good matches to see would be the three I marked as bold from AalborgDH-Fan's great post just above this one.. Ikast is probably one of the top teams in the league who play closest to Billund, but it would probably be a bigger experience to go to GIGANTIUM Arena to see Aalborg DH.. It's a lot more than just a handball game!! Especially when a good team like Randers come to visit!! The only downside is that Aalborg is far from Billund... (Like in "Denmark far" - which could be not that far for you ;) )

If you go by car it should actually be possible to make it for both of the matches in Viborg and Aalborg, since there's less than an hours drive by car from Viborg's arena to Aalborg's arena. After the match in viborg finishes, there will be about 2 hours to the match in Aalborg begins.
But if you travel around by train/bus in Denmark it would be harder to make it in time for both matches.
Compared to Spanish distances, the distances in Denmark are very short - it's a small country.
After the Aalborg match you can go partying all night long in the famous Jomfru Ane Gade in Aalborg, which is Scandinavia's biggest partying street, packed with only discos, bars resturants etc. from one end to the other: http://www.jomfruanegade.info

If these two Saturday matches aren't enough, you could watch a third match the following day.
Horsens' arena is located only 60 km away from Billund Airport, so if you go by car it should be no problem to make it to the airport in time after the match Horsens vs. Fox at 16:00 Sunday and hand in a rental car.
It should also be possible to make it from GOG to to Billund in time if you prefer this match. From the new homecourt of GOG (Odense Idrætshal) to Billund Airport there's only 99 km by car.

And btw. the Legoland theme park in Billund does not open until April 8:) : http://www.legoland.dk/Visit/opening+hours.htm?lc=en

Be careful with Danish league matches!

Two years ago we made a similar trip to Denmark from friday to sunday and planned two matches. (Aalborg-Viborg maybe and Ikast - FTC).

But after buying the flight tickets (low-cost airlines, non-refundable tickets bought 3-4 months before the trip) the Aalborg game was relocated to wednesday of the week of our trip...

Thank you for the advice. I had already counted on that and I will wait as long as possible[1] to buy the tickets, as sometimes you can even buy cheap tickets some weeks before the date of travel.
In any case, I will ask for some advice on the topic of game relocation when the date of buying the ticket comes close.

I'm finally flying this Friday to Billund and then going to Aarhus for the weekend. I guess I will watch the SK Aarhus - Horsens HK match, which doesn't seem very exiciting but will be fine because it's my first time in the Danish league ;-)

Well in one way it is exiting, Horsens need a win not to be alone in the bottom of the league, so it is a very importent match for both SK Aarhus and Horsens
