^If I'm not mistaken, HCM were in the same situation last year, being QF-ists, and they were sent to the qualifying groups. Strange.

Even Gyor played in a Qualification tournament last year. I really don't understand why Rostov will be directly in group phase. [-X

In men competition they did it even worse. Saint-Raphaël VHB have had a great season in France (vice-champion), but EHF offered wild cards to lower ranked teams Montpellier and Nantes. French vice-champions will play EHF Cup.

I don't understand! Are they allowed to do whatever they want? What are the rules for?

I don't get it either. I was hoping for at least some half-arsed official explanation. But no, not even that, nothing.
idle banter.

Not to mention that AUT1 is out of direct placing and SWE1 is in. Well, we are all bored of poor Hypo, but still there are some rules and ranking. Rostov should be happy with getting a chance to play qualifications, as Russia has only 1 place for CL. Outrageous move! They are making league of instant big money clubs instead of league of champions.

Rostov coming from pot4 will probably get hell of MR group! Enough with their forcing like last year, where "EHF experts" rated them as best team on 1st place.

Here you have: "EHF Executive decided after evaluating all registered teams according to a criteria system that looked at eight different fields including past performances, venue, spectator, TV, marketing and media issues (...)."

That's great for big clubs, they don't have to fight so hard in their domestic league anymore.
EHF will invite them in Champions League anyway. :D

That´s correct. But even in football they do not change the qualification criteria after the teams have performed domestically and take clubs in after a board meeting where money is offered. In football the equivalent to this would be like the Icelandic champion gets to qualify from the very bottom and would probably not get far, as per usual. Then Stuttgart of Germany, or a big mid table club from any of the major leagues, contacts UEFA to buy their place and a compensation under the table to the Icelandic club. UEFA then say ok after a good treatment by the Stuttgart board, but we don´t bother to put you through the hassle of qualifying, as you are meeting our "criteria" already ( market, tv-audience, stadium facilities, UEFA bosses luxury treatment etc), we simply put you through to the group stage. You know, even for football, with all the s**t going on there, this would just not be on. And certainly cause a scandal if it happened!
You are too optimistic. World Cup in Qatar?

I had FIFA in mind :) But as you say, there is not much difference between the two.

Where do you get the pots from? I was unable to find them on the EHF webpage. A link would be appreciated.

You can find a list of teams on ehf site. They usually order them according to rankings.
I also made almost the same prediction of pots, with placing CSM as a champion in pot 1, but EHF rated them as ROU1, so pot 2 for them. :)

Why don't you agree with pots? Maybe someone can clarify for champions, if it's directly seeded in 1st pot?

Putting Rostov into that list made a very bad precedent. If they are missing qualification because they are better, richer, whatever, than I object putting THC and Astrakhanochka in front of us.

Seeding for qualification: http://www.eurohandball.com/article/026242/

The right to organise tournaments will be awarded according to the seeding, which means that first right goes to the teams in Pot 1.

Pot 1: Glassverket IF (NOR), HC Leipzig (GER), RK Krim Mercator (SLO)
Pot 2: Hypo NÖ (AUT), HC Podravka Vegeta (CRO), MKS Selgros Lublin (POL)
Pot 3: Indeco Conversano (ITA), Balonmano Bera Bera (ESP), Sercodak Dalfsen (NED)
Pot 4: HC Gomel (BLR), Yenimahalle BSK (TUR), Iuventa Michalovce (SVK)
idle banter.
