Playing dates are 2–19 December 2021. The definitive hosting cities are not yet known.

The World Championship would be expanded from 24 teams to 32 teams.

Winner of the tournament qualifies for the 2023 World Championship.

The minimum age of 16 is required for the participation; a player eligible to participate have to turn 16 years on the day of her first match at the latest.

List of the already qualified teams (2 out of 32):

Image SPAIN (qualified as: organiser)

Image NETHERLANDS (reigning champion~winner of the 2019 World Championship)

Road for remaining (30) teams to qualify:

To be specified later as no details about the spots redistribution (due to the expansion from 24 to 32 teams) were officially announced until now.

I have read somewhere that each participating team can now bring 18 players to the bench instead of the current 16. Anyone knows whether this is true?

Good remark, r&w!

Yes, it's true. And there are some more important changes to highlight:

I still cannot believe this... Impossible has happened in Africa today. Senegal, a team full of professionals from the elite French and German leagues (9 players; 5 more from ISL and FRA-2 leagues), lost their quarterfinal and also a match for WCh slot to Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) which listed 3 players from French 2nd league, 1 player from French 4th league and 12 players from Congolaise league for this match. Republic of Congo will be present at the Worlds again after 12 years.
I've not seen upset like this in international handball since I joined this forum, this is just unreal

No more surprises in Africa. DR Congo, who qualified for some recent WChs, lost the crucial preliminary round game to bravely fighting hosts. With this lose DRC was forced to play Angola in the quarters where they lost expectedly.

Any news on the draw? When and how? Especially since some qualification events finish just 1 month before the actual WCh.
