The Dutch National Team

Postby dutchfan » Sun Mar 21, 2021 11:06 pm

To prevent my own spamming of the other topics I decided to make a new topic about the Dutch NT :D . In the upcomming OG there is place for 14 players. Some players (if healthy and fit) are certain of their place, but for other players it is not yet sure if they will get a place. I tried to make a list of several options.

GK: Wester , (Duijndam-ten Holte) (at least 2 players)
LW: Smeets , van Wetering (1 or 2 LW?)
LB: Abbingh, Polman, Dulfer , Kramer
CB: Smits , (Nüsser-amega)
RB: van der Heijden , (Housheer- van Zijl+ 2 or 3 RB)
RW: Bont , (Malestijn-Vollebregt+ 1 or 2 RW?)
LP: Snelder , Freriks

bold is (if healthy/fit) certain.
underlined is pretty sure of a spot.
italic is if the place isn't sure and their is competition with other players.
Players between the () are the players who are fighting for the same spot.

The biggest questions are who will be the 2nd GK behind Wester, if there is place for Nüsser and/or Amega, who is the 2nd behind van der Heijden and if there will be 1 or 2 wings on the both wing positions. I think the OG will come too soon for Amega. Van Zijl is strong in defense and did great with Housheer out with injury, but i'm not sure she is able to keep the place with Housheer's return (unless there will only be one RW). I hope there will only be one and 3 RB's (I'm not a fan of Malestein).
So these are my thoughts on the team. If you think different about it or want to share your thoughts I'm interested in hearing it :)

Hi, could you please explain me this news:
https://www.handbal.nl/blog/2021/03/30/ ... duitsland/
Correct me if I wrong, but as far as I know, in the Netherlands playing handball is not allowed. So did these players (apart from the two playing abroad) play handball in the last five months?
In conclusion, I declare that EHF must be destroyed

The Dutch league has been stopped and for 5 months no games have been played. Most (if not all) of the players who play in the Dutch league are a part of the handbalacademie, which is basically a trainingsinstitute for young players that was alowed to keep training (topsport has a special status and the academie is counted as that, while the normal league isn't). They have trained in these past few months, but no games. The Dutch teams have recently started playing friendly games (the official league has been canceled, but with testing they are now allowed to play friendlies) so they have played a few games recently, but before that they only trained. I hope this kind of answers your question and if not pls tell on what i need to elaborate ;)

7 players in quarantine (from BVB + Snelder) and will all miss the friendly games against Croatia and Brazil. The replacements are in the link: https://www.handbal.nl/blog/2021/04/07/ ... ntoernooi/

A small update. Since my previous post a few things changed. Broch joined the NT and will be fighting with Freriks for a spot. Kramer is still struggling with injury and is almost certainly out. Amega still hasn't returned since her injury so she probably won't be to full strenght before the OG starts. Van Zijl didn't get an invitation so the duo on RB will most certainly be van der Heijden and Housheer. Same goes for Vollebregt, so RW is Bont and Malestijn. Latest i heard they will take 14+1. The +1 probably is a GK. This means that with what i said before one player from the list won't go. This player probably will be a winger or a lineplayer. So they will take either 3 wingers or 2 lineplayers.

Before the OG 22 players will join in the preperations. From these player 14+1 will go to Japan. From the 22 players selected Delaila Amega hasn't played a match since her injury and th OG will probably come too soon. Polman is also struggling with injury. I'm most dissapointed that Tessa van Zijl isn't selected for the 22 player squad, but 4 lineplayers are. Overal no big surprises here.
1. Lois Abbingh Odense Handbold (DEN)
2. Delaila Amega Borussia Dortmund (GER)
3. Debbie Bont Metz Handball (FRA)
4. Yvette Broch Metz Handball (FRA)
5. Rinka Duijndam Borussia Dortmund (GER)
6. Kelly Dulfer Borussia Dortmund (GER)
7. Merel Freriks Borussia Dortmund (GER)
8. Laura van der Heijden Borussia Dortmund (GER)
9. Yara ten Holte Borussia Dortmund (GER)
10. Dione Housheer Nykøbing F. Håndboldklub (DEN)
11. Harma van Kreij RK Krim Mercator (SLO)
12. Angela Malestein FTC Rail-Cargo Hungaria (HUN)
13. Larissa Nüsser København Håndbold (DEN)
14. Estavana Polman Team Esbjerg (DEN)
15. Martine Smeets CSM Bucuresti (ROM)
16. Inger Smits Borussia Dortmund (GER)
17. Danick Snelder SG BBM Bietigheim (GER)
18. Zoë Sprengers TSV Bayer 04 Leverusen e.V. (GER)
19. Nikita van der Vliet Nykøbing F. Håndboldklub (DEN)
20. Kelly Vollebregt Borussia Dortmund (GER)
21. Tess Wester Odense Handbold (DEN)
22. Bo van Wetering TuS Metzingen (GER)

No Yvette Broch to the Olympic games. She doesn't want to get vaccinated (because of how fast the vaccin has been developed, which normally for new vaccins take longer) and that would mean that she has to live in a different hotel then the rest of the team. Because of this she decided not to join. https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2021/06/03/ha ... n-a4045994

Broch's form got better and better at Metz, it's a loss she won't play. On the other hand, without vaccine she would endanger all her teammates on training and games, so it's better if she doesn't come.

I'm happy that Groot is back! Not only that I love her (who doesn't?), she can add a lot of experience and leadership especially if Polman won't be at her best form.

Agree, but looking on the bright side, it makes the choice for mayonade a bit easier

Nikita van der Vliet won't join the preperations for the OG and will probably miss the OG because of it. Her replacement (in the 22 player squad) is Tamara Haggerty (Tus Metzingen).

Expected, but still sad news. Polman won't be ready for the Olympic games https://www.handbalinside.nl/polman-nie ... ar-spelen/

With all the players who are unavailable for the OG the players who will join are almost certain.
GK: Wester, Duijndam, ten Holte
LW: Smeets, van Wetering
LB: Abbingh, Dulfer
CB: Smits, Groot, Nüsser
RB: van der Heijden, Housheer
RW: Bont, Malestein, (Vollebregt?)
LP: Snelder, Freriks

From the GK's 2 will be selected and probably the remaining one will be the +1. Taking all the backplayers and lineplayers would mean one of the wings will only have 1 player. Iirc Houheer played also on the wing for NFH this season. For the LW maybe Nüsser could there. In my eyes the backplayers should be certain of a place. In my eyes the only question is how the wings will look like and who will be the reserve GK

Well I was quit close to the final squad, except that Mayonade decided to bring 3 reserves instead of the 1 and therefore the reserve won't (only) be a goalkeeper.
