Final day 3 (Sep 29): SEN-ANG 14-22 (6-12)
Tbh expected more from Senegalese, who have like 8 players from the French D1.
1. Angola --> Tokyo
2. Senegal --> Olympic Qualification Tournaments (for now); they go directly to Tokyo if they, or ANG win the 2019 WCh
3. DR Congo --> in wait for the 2019 WCh ranking; they are ready for OQTs if ANG or SEN win that thing, or if Africa is among top two continents
With Asian and African qualification is finished, all continental qualification events are over.
List of already qualified teams (5 out of 12):
JAPAN (qualified as: organiser)
FRANCE (winner of the
2018 European Championship)
BRAZIL (winner of the 2019 Panamerican Games)
SOUTH KOREA (winner of the 2019 Asian Olympic qualification)
ANGOLA (winner of the 2019 African Olympic qualification)
Road for remaining (7) teams to qualify: DIRECT QUALIFICATION:■
1 team: winner of the
2019 World Championship (scheduled for 30 Nov – 15 Dec 2019 in Kumamoto region, Japan)
In the qualification system, WCh takes priority over continental qualification events when allocating respective spots for the events. Therefore, the final ranking of the 2019 WCh may retroactively change the consequences of the four continental qualification events (2018 European Championship, 2018 African Nations Cup, 2019 Panamerican Games & 2019 Asian Olympic Qualification). Regarding direct qualification, if the winners of the 2019 WCh, or Japan, were to win their respective continental qualification event, then the next highest-ranked team of the continental event will take the qualification spot.
INDIRECT QUALIFICATION:■
6 teams: top two teams from the three
2020 Olympic Qualification Tournaments (scheduled for 19 – 22 Mar 2020; hosts TBA by IHF - hosting not depending on the results of the 2019 WCh)
12 teams in total will compete in the 2020 OQT. Firstly, it will be the best six teams from the 2019 WCh not already qualified for the OG, i.e. if one or more teams which have placed between 2nd-7th at the 2019 WCh have already qualified for Tokyo 2020 at their continental qualification event, then the teams placed 8th onwards will be eligible to participation in the OQT.
The remaining six teams for OQT will qualify via olympic continental qualification events (2018 European Championships, 2018 African Nations Cup, 2019 Panamerican Games, 2019 Asian Olympic Qualification & 2019 African Olympic Qualification). They will consist of the two from the best ranked continent at the 2019 WCh, two from the second-best continent and one each from the third and fourth best continent.
Again, the final ranking of the 2019 WCh may retroactively change the consequences of the four continental qualification events in relation to OQT. If team(s) is/are qualified for OQT via 2019 WCh, then next highest-ranked, non-qualified team(s) of the continental event will take the spot(s) for OQT.
Following teams are currently qualified for the 2020 OQT:
